Salvia Divinorum (Ska Pastora)

My First Salvia Trip

My First Salvia Trip

October 20, 2014 By John Reed 1 Comment

Dose: 3-4 hits of  Salvia Divinorum extract 20x
Method: Smoked
Body Weight: 173 lbs
Gender: Male
Age at time of experience: 25
Experience Year: 2010

I have tried Salvia divinorum dozens of times, each time trying my best to understand what is happening in my mind and my body; I can say from experience that understanding what is happening allows the affects to become more profound and enlightening. My first salvia experience was completely unexpected, I am sure most people who have tried it can relate to that feeling. I was unprepared for the sudden journey my mind was about to embark on, shifting into a unique dimension of the universe.

For my first experience, I was with 4 friends and my stepbrother Mason. We went to a park that had all kinds of trails and we found a nice grassy spot under a tree to smoke. Keep in mind that my first experience had more hallucinogenic perception effects, the time frame in which my mind was in another place was not vivid or perceived consciously. So, I packed a bowl of salvia 20x and took a hit. The term “unprepared” doesn’t even come close to the feeling of my experience. The effects kicked in fast, roughly around 15 seconds, maybe even less. I remember Mason throwing a lighter at me and asking if I was alright, probably because at that point my eyes widened and I was entering a trance, feeling the shift from physical reality into an extreme level of connectedness to the things around me. Within the first minute my mind was in another place so I had no perceptions of physical reality, the first couple minutes was blank but I learned later that Mason had picked me up and tried to get me to walk, which was not a good idea. I had no control over my body and when using salvia, it is not a good idea to do anything but sit back, relax and stay calm. Well they struggled to keep me up and continued to bring me back to the car. After about 5 minutes my visionary perception came back, I was being held up by Mason, who was to my left; to my right was my friend recording me with his phone. Another not so good idea for a salvia experience, being recorded affects your experience greatly. I felt Mason, not on a physical level but on a mental level. I could feel his energy which was a unique feeling but when I looked to my right and saw the phone, my mind got stuck on repeat. Everything started playing over and over. I saw the orange trees, the cement path under my feet, to my far right in my peripheral vision was a muddy stream and a log. There was roughly a frame of 1 second that I saw all those things and within my mind I saw that 1 second scene repeating probably hundreds of times and when the repetition started a voice was with it, repeating. After the scene repeated for however long it did, I started to think again and the effects were still happening so my thoughts were not completely clear. I felt like the entire city of Merced had come to watch me walk around the park over and over and I was some kind of entertainment for everyone, the feeling wasn’t the most pleasant but everything was bright and had a positive vibe to it. By the time we got back to the car, the effects were wearing off and I felt myself coming back into physical reality. Mason was freaking out trying to explain what I was doing but my mind still had to come back completely. He was in a hurry to get me home so we ended up leaving 2 friends at the park, I got home and passed right out. The experience would have been much better if Mason and my friends had more control over the situation and did not freak out and try to get me up and moving. Later, when I thought back to the experience, it was very enlightening. An experience so different than everyday life, a shift in consciousness and expansion of mind.

My first experience wasn’t the best it could have been, but I did not let that fear prevent me from trying it again. I did more research and strived to understand what was happening and it led me to trying it again and having a much better experience. Once I realized that relaxing was the key to having a good experience, I started using salvia a lot and over time I learned more about the effects both mentally and physically.

I have had many more experiences. The first experience is always be most memorable in my opinion. My experiences were much different after the first. Now my experiences are much more dimensional based, when I use salvia now I can feel things, not just perceive their existence but actually feel their energy, in trance and out of trance. Now, I feel the physiological and psychological changes. I feel my emotions completely stable, the energy in my body balanced and my heart and mind harmonized. When I come out of trance and I am back in physical reality, I have no negative feelings such as worry, anxiety, frustration, Etc. but I feel everything positive, I feel connected to everything around me and in turn I do not emit any negative emotions that would destabilize that harmony and connectedness.

Salvia Divinorum as Alternative Medicine

Salvia Divinorum as Alternative Medicine

wavatar

September 11, 2014 By John Reed 1 Comment

salvia divinorumThe traditional path of medicinal drugs and their compounds begins with natural plant-derived ingredients. It is no surprise then that Salvia divinorum is being considered by the professional medical community as an option for the treatment of many disorders.

Mental disorders have been treated by the perennial herb Salvia Divinorum for hundreds of years in mountain regions of Mexico. Salvia has not been criminalized in many countries internationally as it has been historically used for ritual purpose. Some governments and legal bodies however, do treat this herb with the same illegality as marijuana. In truth the effects of marijuana are dramatically different than the effects of Salvia.

Recent studies have shown that the effects of Salvia can reduce a persons addiction to harmful substances like alcohol. Beyond the drug treatment prospects found in the powerful compounds of Salvia, there are links to the possible treatment of multiple personality disorders and memory diseases. Even chronic pain sufferers have benefited from the effects of the active ingredients which Salvia features. Other benefits have been noted from countless users of this herb, with testimonials available online and in published medical studies.

There are presently exploratory studies throughout the world studying the physical and mental effects of Salvia. While the research takes place Salvia is still considered illegal in many nations and states. The trials of Salvia have not been underway long enough and have not provided enough evidence for some governments to give the OK on official approval for treatments of human ailments.

Salvia is known to produce psychedelic effects as well as feel good effects which vary from user to user. Many personal experiences describe a detachment from reality with a unique and healing spiritual experience. Dr. Karl R. Hanes, Ph.D found 5 out of 6 of his patients diagnosed with depression benefited from being treated with Salvia. There are some people, doctors and even labs which are researching the benefits of these spiritual experiences and altered states of consciousness.

The list of benefits from using Salvia in safe doses is limitless. A pitfall of the alternative medicine use of Salvia is the failure of big medicine. Pharmaceutical corporations remain unwilling to fund large scale testing on Salvia as many laws in places like the United States and Australia prevent studies.

Big Media has a part to play in the slow uptake of Salvia’s positive effects. Inaccurate comparisons have been made by top news corporations which lead salvia divinorumviewers to believe that Salvia D is akin to DMT and other powerful hallucinogens. The visual trip that Salvia provides has a very short lifespan in comparison to these other drugs. When a person uses Salvia they are typically feeling dramatic effects for less than 1 hour, for most it is less than 30 minutes. Big Media has caused a disease of misinformation to spread across the world. Almost no accurate information on the positive effects of Salvia has been publicly reported. There is largely more bad mouthing being done by doctors on TV about this ancient herb than factual evidence presented without bias.

Salvia has a bright future in the medical field. The seeds of research have been planted enough to get trails in motion worldwide. Salvia is undeniably a force to be considered in the future treatment of major and minor mental ailments.

Salvia 20X vs Salvia 40X – What works for you

The Strength of Salvia

Salvia is used internationally for countless spiritual and insightful purposes. The Salvia leaf can be smoked and in some cultures it is chewed or consumed orally in a fashion. Most of the Salvia available in the world commercially has come from closely related plants that are almost genetically identical. There are not huge differences in strength if the Salvia leaf has been unaltered. The intentions of Salvia use for many people in modern times has changed, and a new intensified version of Salvia is now available. With strengthened Salvia extracts, it is possible to experience grand effects without needing to smoke any additional material.

Salvia Extract 20X

Salvia Extract 20x

Salvia 20x is a commonly used concentrate of Salvia, it is much stronger than standard Salvia leaf and should be used with caution. This concentrate is sold most often in a smokeable leaf form which looks very close to the standard Salvia leaf. Salvinorin A which is the hallucinogenic compound within Salvia, is the focus of amplification and concentration. In a gram of Salvia 20x concentrate there will be 20 times the natural amount of Salvinorin A that gram would typically have. One gram of 20x Salvia concentrate will contain around 50 – 72 mg of Salvinorin A, much more potent than standard leaf. For reference, a standard gram of unaltered Salvia leaf contains usually 2.5 mg Salvinorin A.

When smoking 20x concentrate, the effects will vary based on a few things: existing tolerance to Salvia, user weight, and combination of the 20x with other substances (marijuana, alcohol, etc). A 20x concentrate that is being smoked should be taken with strong hits that are held in the lungs for 20-40 seconds. To get the most Salvinorin A out of the concentrated leaf, it is best to use a butane lighter. A Butane torch will vaporize the maximum amount of the present hallucinogenic compound. If using a liquid tincture of 20x Salvia, take into consideration that high proof alcohol is present within the mix.

Salvia Extract 40x

Some Salvia users may find they have become tolerant of the effects of Salvia or they were resistant to other less intense strengths of Salvia concentrates. Other people find they are looking for a deeper and longer lasting experience. Salvia 40x is another commonly used concentrate of Salvia. It is twice as strong as 40x with up to 144 mg of Salvinorin A in one gram.

There is a much deeper experience available through using 40x Salvia. It is not recommended to combine with other substances, this way the true Salvia trip can be felt. The effects will vary based on the same things mentioned before: weight, tolerance, and use in combination with other substances. Somethings that are commonly experienced include strong visual hallucinations, intense changes in perception, and incredible insight. The weight of a person and lung capacity (ability to hold hits for 20-40 seconds) change the physical ability of a person to experience the Salvia concentrate trip. Alcohol and other drugs will distort the Salvia experience and make the trip less predictable with the chance for different physical side effects. Butane is recommended with 40x Salvia as well, to unlock the most Salvinorin A and have the deepest trip.

Salvia Versus DMT – Two Different Trips

salvia                                                 dmt crystals

Intro

There are countless ways to experience psychedelic hallucinations in the modern world thanks to Salvia and DMT. The ancient world continues to provide plants and active ingredients to take the human mind away from reality for awhile. Common, naturally derived substances like Salvia and DMT provide a non-synthetic window into a different world of experiences. People have been using both of these substances for centuries. The effects are not necessarily consistent or controllable but Salvia and DMT are drugs which are known for producing visual hallucinations. These substances have different laws and legal status in place in the US and around the world to restrict their use. Regardless of legal status, Salvia and DMT are available in different forms world wide.

Salvia

Salvia can be grown inside or outdoors by anyone and you can easily buy Salvia online. Salvia plant material can be reduced to a tincture or extract to intensify the hallucination experience. DMT is not as easy to make or find compared to Salvia. Both Salvia and DMT are most commonly smoked, and are considered by many veterans of the experiences to have similar effects. Looking at the active ingredients and chemical make up of these substances can help explain their effects.

For many years, Salvia divinorum was taken orally (and sometimes smoked) by the native people of Oaxaca Mexico. In the Sierra Mazateca Mountains, this perennial herb naturally grows and is cultivated by clippings in other places. The active ingredient of this plant is known as Salvinorin A. This ingredient “Salvinorin A”, when smoked from the plant, interacts with the brain through neurotransmitters. The physiological effects are very unique to the Salvinorin A compound and cannot be found elsewhere, not even in other Salvia plants.

Smoking a standard leaf of the Salvia divinorum plant is the most simple and low dose way a person to experience effects. The immediate acute effects which include visual hallucinations and feelings of floating are known for lasting around 10 minutes. Many people describe their personal experiences as visually pleasant and also as very introspective. The world will be experienced differently under the hallucination effects, but a whole new world is not totally created for most people. The after effects vary from person to person but most commonly include improved mood and feelings of connection to the universe and nature. Youtube has archives of Salvia trips that some medical professionals are now using to study Salvia to get a better understanding of the substance.

DMT ( Dimethyltryptamine )

DMT, formally known as NN-Dimethyltryptamine is a psychedelic compound that can be taken in several different ways. The modern and most commonly used form of DMT is smokable and vaporizable. DMT is commonly found combined with an MAOI (monoamine oxisade inhibitor) rich plant known as “changa”. Changa is enhanced with DMT to create a modernized version of Ayahuasca – a psychedelic brew from the amazon, and surround Central American and South American regions. The combination of DMT with an MAOI is done to activate the compound and allows for psychedelic effects to be experienced.

The short-acting effects of DMT are described as very intense, and many people experience full immersion into a different world or reality. The blood brain barrier is breached with DMT allowing for intense mental effects. Perspective shifts and changes are nearly inevitable. Insight revelations are also typical during a DMT trip. It is common for a person to feel deep spiritual awakenings or rebirth. The visual open eye hallucinations are often hard to describe after the trip, it can be so new and perfectly abstract that there are not words to describe what a person see’s. The DMT dose, form of ingestion, and mood/environmental factors can dictate how intense a DMT trip will be. Typical trip lengths last between 6-20 minutes according to Erowid reports. There are no common reported hangover feelings or after effects which linger longer than an hour.

Similarities and Differences

DMT is considered a far more powerful psychedelic than Salvia. There are some Salvia extracts of 60x strength or more which are concentrated to produce much more intense and DMT like effects. The two substances both provide hallucinations but different depths and types of hallucinations are experienced. The experiences cannot be the same because the active ingredients are different.

The two different trips from these substances are both short, and share a range of insightful effects. Smoking can be hard on the lungs for some people and vaporization or other forms may be less physically harsh. A safe and pleasant location is best for any trips that can feature visuals and quick acting effects. Some may find the effects to be trance like for both Salvia and DMT. It may be hard for any person to describe their experience after a trip, the effects are deeply personal and divine in nature.

Philosophy vs Party – Salvia fights modern day use

Philosophy vs Party – Salvia fights modern day use

Philosophy vs Party – Salvia fights modern day use

Originally the plant Salvia divinorum was cultivated by mountain people of the Mazatec region. It was used through the past in different ways but often for the same reason. Most often, it was consumed orally, with some evidence showing history of smoking as well. For the effects it was used, a sacred ritual of introspection that these mountain people valued and had pride in. When salvia is taken orally, the effects are different than modern day methods of smoking.

Salvia

The cultural Mazatec use of salvia was spiritual in nature. The partying of modern times is for escape most often, not to look into one’s soul or peer into the nature of the universe. Salvia was for a long time, used as a means of deepening a persons relationship with themselves and their spirit. Daniel Siebert is quoted as saying people often have “profound insights during salvia experiences”. Salvia is said to induce some vision interference and cause a dream like feeling for the person tripping. After effects can vary just as much as individual trip experiences.

Salvia liquid tinctureQuality of experience can vary based on method of salvia use. Tinctures, extracts, oral consumption, smoking, the list of ways to consume salvia goes on. Most salvia that is grown in the world today is genetically identical thanks to clipping propagation. The plant is typically grown and exported from Mexico. Trip effects are going to depend on the strength and quality and individual persons mental status. Salvia extracts and tinctures can be made at different strengths at home from dried salvia leaves or bought online.

Thanks to the internet and social media, it is easy enough to find ways and means to remove yourself from reality. For those who may be inexperienced, youtube offers some instructional videos for countless things. There are many herbal supplements used to escape reality, but a quote from the 2009 joergo.de interview with Daniel Siebert in reference to Salvia says, “Salvia is not an escapist drug. Quite the contrary it is a philosopher’s tool”.

Often a person will try tripping on Salvia around other people. There are countless videos (again) of this online for the curious mind to pour over or have a laugh. Rarely is it discussed or filmed that Salvia is best used alone. This is the easiest way to unlock the introspective part of the plant. Daniel Seibert is again quoted on this topic “Salvia provides access to parts of the psyche that are normally out of reach. For this reason, people often learn a lot about themselves during salvia trips.” There is no right or wrong way to use it of course. A person just may benefit in different ways based on their use and environment.

In black and white, many herbs and supplements are abused with high doses and a brutish mental attitude. Salvia is no exception to the social norm of tripping around other people. The issue lies with instructional videos and guides conveying an inappropriate purpose behind the use of the drugs. A lack of facts can cause a person to use something like Salvia for the wrong reasons it was once grown for.

This philosopher’s drug cannot exist in nature on it’s own. The Salvia divinorum plant most almost always grow from the help of humans. It must be clipped and replanted carefully to grow again. This shows commitment of a serious nature. The same attitude should be carried over into the use of salvia, as a philosopher’s tool not a party source. If a person is avoiding this sort of heavy mind expansion other things can be used or salvia can be taken in low doses. Respect the plant and it’s abilities and a person will unlock a new part of their mind.

The Outdoor Connect – A Salvia Trip

The Outdoor Connect – A Salvia Trip

wavatar

July 4, 2014 By John Reed Leave a Comment

Dose: 2 gram of  Salvia Divinorum extract 20x
Method: Smoked
Body Weight: 170
Gender: Male
Age at time of experience: 30
Experience Year: 2014

Equipment and Trip Preparation: Just used my glass pipe and a butane torch as equipment. Knew a website I could buy salvia from without fuss so I ordered some up, of the 20x persuasion. Took the day off work, cleaned up the yard and set up my trip area a little, brought out something to play music on. Turned off my alarms and electronics. Put on my light weight waterproof watch and some standard Sunday relaxing t-shirt and shorts combination. I knew what the after-effects would probably feel like so I made some lemonade for later. I brought some pillows outside too in case I didn’t feel like moving for awhile

Mental Status and Environment: Some people like me with low stress life styles (no kids or wife) and easy enough jobs don’t have enough stuff to push them towards a big change. I have used Salvia before to soul search and just for fun, it always takes me deep. I like looking at who I truly am, even if I’m a pretty normal guy I know I have so much potential to unlock beyond my surface.

Tripping inside is very safe in my experience, and that is my go to environment. This time I wanted more, so I went outside. I took my preparation of dry salvia extract , my pipe, my favorite butane torch and sat down in my backyard hammock. It was warm outside but not too uncomfortable for me, I would probably get a little sweaty on the trip anyways.

Dosage: An oversized lump of the 20x salvia extract went into my pipe.

My Salvia Trip:

Salvia Trip - HammockInitial response – I lay back onto my hammock. Totally taken aback by my decision to smoke salvia at all.. I feel like I am transforming in the hammock. I feel like I am becoming electrically connected to it. I’m used to the heavy sinking feelings and I just go deep. There are birds chirping and wildlife springing around me, and I feel them slipping away as I get deeper and deeper into the hammock cocoon. Bright spring light drifts between the branches and leaves shading my hammock. It goes a little dark from there..

Looked at my watch, must have been about 4 minutes had passed. Tried to grab my pipe to smoke more if I had not finished off the bowl. Didn’t know if I wanted to get a more intense trip but I Leaned over and nearly fell out of the hammock. Let out a laugh but my voice was gone. I felt the dirt almost touch my fingers. My backyard was like a warm womb, I just closed my eyes and considered what it might look like in my mind.

I fought the sleepy eyes for awhile, the trip was becoming a nap session in the garden rather than soul searching. I couldn’t look inside when the backyard was so open and the nature was almost consuming. I felt like I was becoming a part of my hammock.patio - Salvia Trip

There was a new connection to my surroundings I had not felt before tripping. This was the feeling I was missing, connection and concern for the nature of reality. Not some room with books and lamps.

Eventually, and I cannot remember why, but I made it out of the hammock and into the grass beneath. I layed in the grass then. I never got the boombox on but I was content enough until the sunset and bugs started biting. With a ton of effort, I remember it was really hard – I got myself inside and enjoyed the lemonade I made earlier that day and went off to sleep.
